Parent Education
The 21st Century Parenting Program for adolescents is a 7-week class for parents and adolescents between the ages of 10 and 18. Through this program families get a clear picture of why teens misbehave. They acquire tools and skills they need to stop problems. FYI counselors offer follow-up therapy and support for individual families. This program is more effective than other programs because teenagers participate in activities with parents and work in separate breakout groups. Everyone learns about responsibility and accountability for actions. The program is also available in Spanish.
FYI also has an 8-week program designed especially for parents with young children (newborn to 2 years old.) Each week, parents participate in educational activities designed to help them parent their young children, and they have an opportunity to participate in a parent support group with other members of the class. Parents bring their infants with them to the classes, because many of the educational activities offer hands-on training. Programming topics include a day at the resort for parents and infants, self-hypnosis techniques for parental stress relief, baby discipline techniques, baby massage, and others. More information can be obtained by calling or emailing FYI.
Next Class begins Spring, 2012 - Call or email for information.
Substance Abuse Education
We have group and individual counseling for families and children of alcoholics. Using the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous in a counseling setting, families struggling with problems related to substance use or abuse by a loved one learn to live happy, productive lives while supporting their loved ones. Working together in an experiential, fun environment, families learn how to rebuild relationships, stop drug and alcohol abuse, and build support systems.
ADHD & ODD Education
At Family & Youth Institute, LLC, education groups are offered to both parents and youths to learn about ADHD and ODD through educational groups and counseling. Social skill groups are also offered to youth and adolescents. In addition to educating parents and youths, we help parents communicate with schools to assist in finding services for children identified as ADHD and ODD. As former educators, we have experience working with federally mandated 504 and special education programming.
